£80k and counting ….
The Hut Appeal Fund goes from strength to stremgth – our most recent large donation was £5,000 from the Metropolitan Masonic Charity, following an earlier donation of the same amount from Middlesex Masons. Paul Medlycott, Leo Mindel and Stephen Plume represented us at Freemasons’ Hall on 29 November, where they were shown around the very impressive art-deco building . We are very grateful to their members for the donation.

Other recent donations which have helped boost the fund to an amazing £80,000 are: Aviva (£1k), Tesco Bags of Help (£2k) plus smaller amounts from Phoenix Ladies’ Club, Holy Trinity Church Autumn Fair, Nisa Local, MK Charitable Trust and Northwood Hills Residents’ Association Big Switch On event. Thank you everyone!
Thank you, Lions – again!
Northwood Lions Club held one of their twice-yearly presentation evenings on Thursday, 9th November. The Lions raise an incredible amount of money at their Saturday morning market, all of which they distribute to local charities.
This time the recipients were Northwood Live at Home Scheme, Orchyd, Paul Strickland Scanner Centre, Mind Hillingdon, New Hope Charity and 1st Northwood Scouts New Hut Appeal.
Leo Mindel received a cheque for £2,000 from Olive Fairclough on behalf of the Group.

What a Weekend!
It all happens at once for our New Hut Appeal. On Friday 22nd September, our My Donate account received a £780 boost from the sale of revamped laptops, thanks to Leo and Stephen.
Then at lunchtime on Saturday 23rd, Liz Spencer opened a letter with a cheque for £10,000 enclosed! This was from the Garfield Weston Foundation. https://garfieldweston.org/ Thanks to Ted Adams for putting us in touch.
To round off the day, we held our Big Band evening at Fairfield featuring Trinity Swing. The event raised a further £960 for the Appeal.

Do They Ever Stop?
1st Northwood exec committee members don’t take the summer off – oh no! Paul, Geoff and Richard spent last Sunday selling loads of stuff, mostly left-over Jumble items, at a car boot sale.
Another £300 for the Appeal Fund kitty – well done chaps!
Our £100k Appeal is One Third of the Way There!
Yes, we have hit the £33,333.33 mark!
The event that gave us the last few pounds was Norfest 2017, a large community Open Day held at RAF Northolt on 22nd July. A small band of 1st Northwood volunteers set up stalls with games for children to have a go at, plus some promotional material for the adults. All day, we battled against the wind and driving rain; in true 1N fashion we were prepared with waterproof clothing for ourselves and plenty of weights and string to lash our displays down. The pictures say it all!
Sun Shines on Plant Sale
Our 25th Plant Sale was blessed with fine weather which brought the punters out in their droves. Over the course of the weekend we took almost £2,000; this will be shared between the Northwood Live at Home Scheme and 1st Northwood New Hut Appeal.
It was good to see a number of Explorers and their Mums coming along to help, the carry-to-car service was popular. Thanks also to Sharon and Wendy for running the refreshment stall, we certainly needed plenty to drink in the heat.
